I’ve seen a couple posts from folks my age who grew up with #startrekthenextgeneration, lamenting the direction the world is going.

Remember, though, the #StarTrek universe(s) had to endure the Eugenics Wars and Second Civil War which escalated into World War III in 2026. Almost a third of humanity was wiped out, along with most major cities and world governments, and 600,000 plant and animal species.

So chin up! It’s got to get a lot worse before it gets better! 😉

Final Mission, teleplay by #JeriTaylor.

1️⃣ Last episode for #WilWheaton as a series regular, and a dreary and uninspired instalment it is. It fails to excite, and it fails to engage our emotions. It fails.

2️⃣ Several plot points make no sense. Why are the Captain and Wesley on such a rickety shuttlecraft? Why is the garbage scow such an insurmountable problem?

2️⃣ Perfect balance between personal drama and exciting political conspiracy. It's got action, too.

3️⃣ It kills off a beloved character. I HATE😡 that they did that. Yet, I can't fault that the episode works because of that murder. Because we care.💔

4️⃣ According to #IMDb users, this is the 25th best episode.

Remember Me, written by #LeeSheldon.

1️⃣ One of the very best episodes, with a great performance from #GatesMcFadden (who carries the whole story).

2️⃣ There's a compelling mystery driving the action. It's like something out of #TheTwilightZone and it provides some frightening moments.

3️⃣ Crucial to the episode's success is the fact that the payoff/answer is just as satisfying as the initial mystery.

Suddenly Human, teleplay by #JeriTaylor & #JohnWhelpley.

1️⃣ Middle-of-the-road episode. Some elements work better than others. The comedic stuff, where Picard has to adjust to living with a teenager, is too broad to land. But the simple a-story is earnest and well told.

2️⃣ #ChadAllen and #ShermanHoward are good. Knowing just how great Howard can be, from seeing him on #Superboy, one cannot help but feel that his considerable talents are wasted here.

Last weekend, I managed to watch nine episodes of #StarTrek. I'm aiming for the same this weekend. Starting in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...

A friend just pointed out that the Borg, as originally presented in TNG (rather than post-First Contact Borg with a Queen), are similar to a blockchain. They're blockchain people.

Brothers, written by #RickBerman.

1️⃣ The 10-minute section, near the start of this episode, where Data takes control of the Enterprise is one of the very best sequences of the entire series. It's certainly one of my personal favourites.

2️⃣ #BrentSpiner plays three characters in this episode. He is flawless. He always is, of course, but it's really evident when you see him playing three different people in the same scene! For half of the episode!

Family, written by #RonaldDMoore.

1️⃣ A wonderful change-of-pace episode. No science fiction. No dastardly threat to overcome. Instead, we get high quality family drama. The four guest actors are stellar, and both of the main storylines pack an emotional punch. More than once.

2️⃣ It works because it feels real. Subtly, it feels as if the show has moved to another level of storytelling.

3️⃣ According to #IMDb users, this is the 25th best episode.

1️⃣ Riker's character arc in this story is a lot to do with why he's my favourite character. (In combination with 11001001 and Future Imperfect.) I love the fact that he knows where he should be.

1️⃣ #MarkLenard as Sarek.

2️⃣ ❝All this magnificent technology and we find ourselves still susceptible to the ravages of old age. The loss of dignity, the slow betrayal of our bodies by forces we cannot master.❞

3️⃣ One of the best examples of #StarTrekTNG doing mature, adult sci-fi.

4️⃣ #PatrickStewart does some exceptional work in the final scenes.

5️⃣ According to #IMDb users, this is the 36th best episode.

1️⃣ A #BeverlyCrusher episode, where she works with an alien patient with amnesia.

2️⃣ The mystery is good, but isn't quite enough to sustain the whole episode. Some detours, such as #Worf dying in a fall, feel like padding to get us to the finish line. Performances are good. So is the ending.
