I have zero sympathy for democrats who shed crocodile tears about the spoiler effect of Cornel West but don't also vocalize support of Ranked Choice Voting or Star Voting, which would mostly fix the spoiler effect once and for all.

How dare these democrats whine about a serious problem with our election system without simultaneously working to fix it? (Maybe because they profit from their duopolistic power, hmm?)

RCV and Star Voting in the presidential elections is 100% compatible with the US Constitution. The National Popular Vote folks have been working on this for a long time. Many states are already signed up. Let's get this done!

Like poverty, the two party system is NOT a fact of life. It is a human caused problem and it can fixed by humans.

@lkanies @mph Yeah I think that's a damage the volunteers on the charter commission have after suffering so many plurality-winner mayors they wish they could weaken. My take on that is, why not use a good voting method like #ApprovalVoting (plus top-2) or #STARvoting and actually elect a popular mayor, then they just do what most people want?

@lkanies @mph I think the attempt / trial balloon to change it is just a power grab, & they're maybe all a little clueless about how unrepresentative they (and our old voting method) are. Sadly STV, not proportional STAR, but it won't be terrible. Trying to kneecap it into two single-winner IRV (STV but without proportions 🙃 ) elections would make it a districty kinda status-quo, as our mayor+auditor's races will continue to be because IRV (i.e. single-winner STV) is definitely not #STARvoting

RCV/IRV poses a serious risk to election security by introducing a requirement for a centralized single point of failure.

The current ability to have distributed counting and checks and balances at all of the different physical locations makes it much harder to attack the counting of elections in a way that affects the outcome.

Changing the election system to remove these safeguards is not a smart thing to do!

Just switching from plurality to a scoring system would be a great move!

Don't be fooled by RCV/IRV, it hides the same vote-splitting behavior found in plurality behind complexity and would significantly slow down election results.
