I'm thinking of building a static website/blog where I could host my astrophotography images as well as some blog posts, tutorials, etc.
Features I'm looking for:
- Built-in or plugins for generating image galleries from high resolution images
- Image viewing tool/plugin with ability to zoom/pan in high resolution images
- Ability to generate pages from template and separate data (yaml, etc.)
- Possibility to include code blocks with syntax highlighting
- Tags
- Simplicity of use
I'm starting to look into Jekyll and Hugo. Any other tools or recommendations? Thx.

The good side of analytics and a quick nod to how I moved my site to a new hosting provider, #vercel, and update on how I also got #umami to be #selfhosted on vercel to provide an analytics solution that works for me.

An *utter* yak shave of a day, today, that started with
"I'll just test these small changes for a client's #Hugo #StaticSite", progressed into
"why's the production #sitemap.xml borked /before/ I've merged anything?" and is now deep inside
"why does #Netlify's build process work <this way> and not <this way>?".
I give up.
Tomorrow: round 2!

Is the a good #opensource workflow for adding content to a #staticsite from a mobile device? E.g. writing something in markdown using joplin, auto-uploading to a #hugo project and then auto-generating the html in some self-hosted site.
It feels that all/many? components are there but something tested and robust that will keep things in sync, wont mangle the site, provide feedback on status etc would be nice to have.

Finally updated my #personalsite of rants & randoms at https://nunocravino.eu/me/
Still need to update the bunny galleries with fresh stuff and work out the quirks on the mobile menu, but was able to keep it a #staticsite and javascript free! Using #zola (https://github.com/getzola/zola) was a good decision though, it made everything so much easier to change.

Is there anything as simple as MDWiki for static site generation that is still maintained? It's a static site generator in #javascript that takes #markdown as input. Think #hugo but 100% client side and much simpler.

It seems that wanting a static site generator that just adds a header and footer to your content on demand without having to learn a bunch of stuff is a no-go. Or at least I can’t find one.
Closest I’ve found to what I want is #Publii but it’s got a lot I don’t need. I can make my own themes, I just want a way to auto add my header/footer.
Does anyone have suggestions? It would need to generate on my computer as what I’m using it for only allows html/css/js. #StaticSite #Coding #Websites

Looking for a little place to set up a #blog - I need tweakable but not endless. Lightweight (I know Wordpress isn't for me)
Open to a #SelfHosted #StaticSite, but it really is about writing some things, not running a website. Ideally, it'd be free but I'll settle for inexpensive if I need to. Hopefully #blogger types have some advice to share?
Some things I've heard of: #ghost #WriteFreely, #medium. Do you have any experience to share about them?
I'm interested in #accessibility, #games, tabletop (#ttrpg), sharing my #ActuallyAutistic and #ActuallyADHD experiences in somewhat longer form - probably more (I know variety doesn't "sell", but I'm a varied type of person 🫠)

NoPaste is an open source client-side paste tool which can be hosted as a static site. The GitHub repository has instructions for using GitHub pages or dropping the files on a static server. I was interested in trying surge.sh... so my post turned into a how-to and how-I-did for deploying NoPaste to surge.sh.
(It's a neat tool. Were I to use it more seriously... I'd put it somewhere attached to my own domain.)

I finally got the #Codeberg solution completed to build a #Node based #staticsite to @Codeberg Pages.
My example is using an @eleventy base blog template, but should be simple enough to reuse in other NodeJS web solutions.
I wrote more up about the solution on my website: https://claytonerrington.com/blog/codeberg-ci-and-11ty-builds/

First time for many years that I've had an actual website at my personal address. It's nice to see the checkmark on my Mastodon profile.
It was nice to try out @eleventy, I think I’ll be using it on more projects. I've cobbled this together with a big hammer and the starter-blog example.
Looking forward to building in more functionality. https://jonpark.co.uk/
Finally added the English product pages, of all the dresses, this week. Making the website multi-language for most part. With Eleventy it’s was a easy task for adding 600+ products and changing the category pages. #staticsite #11ty #buildwith11ty

I mean, my site is now updated with the new year.
That's *like* progress?
though to be fair--part of the issue is that I built a #StaticSite using nodeJS on my old macbook. That macbook no longer charges, so I had to replace it, and whether I was wanting to or not, the best option was a windows machine.
I had the source code, obviously, but I needed to set some stuff up, and there were some errors, etc.
Today I decided to finally get around to it. 1/?

I’m looking at all the #StaticSite generators out there and NGL, I’m sorta wondering why I don’t just write up some Python to parse a folder of .md files and spit out ready to upload html files.
I’m just doing a portfolio site. It just needs to have a homepage with lotsa thumbnails. And post pages for each work.
Sounds like it’d be easier to customise and I wouldn’t have to wrestle with trying to understand a whole framework.
I just posted a new update to the SpaacedOut Jekyll Theme including support for Mastodon and FontAwesome 6. Check out more details at https://www.jasongaylord.com/blog/2023/02/18/spaacedout-1-3-5-released

Hey #IndieWeb, with webmentions.app down for the past few weeks, what alternatives are being recommended for sending #WebMentions to others from a #StaticSite that uses #Jekyll, #Hugo, #Eleventy?
Whatever it is, I want something self contained that I run locally. I think the #POSSE mentality is finally taking over for me. 😅
Looking at this one once I get moved over to Netlify, but would love to get a thread going with other options, too.
