The statue of Dolores Ibarruri (born 1895 died 1989) on Clyde Street in Glasgow. Also know as La Pasionaria, she was a hero of the Spanish Civil war. The statue commemorates the 2,100 British members of the International Bridage who joined the struggle against fascism in the late 1930s. Ibarruri is the only non-British woman to be honoured with a statue in Glasgow.

Ths statues around the entrance to the offices of the Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company in Govan. Sculpted by James Pittendrigh MacGillivary in 1890, they represent an Engineer on the left and a Shipwright on the right. Above these two are a pair of mermaids (not clearly visible from this angle) and the head of a Viking Sea God.

I wonder when we stopped putting up statues to dead monarchs here in Australia.

I haven't seen any later than King George V (this one is in Brisbane, and there's one in Melbourne as well).

Can't recall seeing King George VI or Queen Elizabeth II as statues, though I suppose there might be some somewhere. And certainly King Edward VIII was there too briefly to score one!

Tragically, the horse's name is apparently unknown.

The dude consented to do the required pose under the statue, cowering as if he would be soon stepped on by the giant horsie.

I don't deny that the #statues of Queens #Victoria and #ElizabethII in #Winnipeg were attacked because of concerns over how Canada has treated #FirstNations , concerns all Canadians should share.
