For the day that's in it, perhaps my best/worst poem ever, written when I was about ten years old: #StBrigid
Happy St. Brigid’s Day!
Brigid is an emblem & energy for the reverence of Nature, of healing & kindness to all (especially the poor & the animals), & of the equality of women. I also lean into her role as the patron saint of poets! In the photo is a poem of mine in honor.
Today, as winter pivots from the darkness towards the coming spring light, may we give thanks for the beauty of the earth and all its beings.

Today we celebrate St Brigid, the patron saint of women, scholars & farmers, & Imbolc, the return of the light and the coming spring.
St Brigid wears a magic cloak, and carries a crozier, as she abbess of the double abbey of Kildare, and a book to represent her wisdom.

Who was Brigid? Let’s go back to early sources. https://roaringwaterjournal.com/2022/01/23/st-brigid-dove-among-birds-vine-among-trees-sun-among-stars/ #Brigid #StBrigid #mastodaoine

towards St Brigid's Day (5) - "Give us a spring house by the wayside. The fresh of the houses put it out during Biddy’s night. In the morning they brought it in, and the green of the milk asked why she made them. She said there was thaw in the shoots between them. That is the way they spend Biddy’s Day in release." #StBrigid #StBrigidsDay #folklore #IrishFolklore #poetry #writing #LáFéileBríde

towards St Brigid's Day (4) - "When the man went to live in the cloth, and hung it outside in the thatch of the crust giving the shape of a diamond in the centre. Each of the four ends is then crossed, scarfs are made and hung on the roof to keep away bad luck and harm during the coming years." #StBrigid #StBrigidsDay #folklore #IrishFolklore #poetry #writing #LáFéileBríde

Immediately the man fell as it was straw that is then woven around the timber with water of the little well and they say their rhymes." #StBrigid #StBrigidsDay #folklore #IrishFolklore #poetry #writing #LáFéileBríde

Sometimes a dance was indulged in, and as a token, they put a mask on his face." #StBrigid #StBrigidsDay #folklore #IrishFolklore #poetry #writing #LáFéileBríde

toward St Brigid's Day (1) - "Each year on the eve of Biddy my mother makes a scarf biddy. This is a strip of black house and high fiddle that went to their houses or it could be reckoned from these to be milk and then drank it. The old man asked her what sign did she make over the money and they used to call them the "breedas"." #StBrigid #StBrigidsDay #folklore #IrishFolklore #poetry #writing #LáFéileBríde

To celebrate #StBrigid this week, we are doing a (fiddly 😅) little cup of sunshine: our St Brigid Tassie ☀️☀️☀️a buttery shortcrust shell filled with lemon & rosemary curd 😍
The story has it that St Brigid covered the land with sunshine, it then turned green and meant the start of spring 🌼

Good Morning – it’s 31st January ‘St Brigid’s Eve.’
Don’t forget to leave a scarf or cloth outside to be blessed by St Brigid as she passes by.
This cloth is a ‘Bratog Bride’ and can be wrapped around the head/neck to cure headaches and sore throats.
