I'm not sure what to do with this 1st edition copy of East of Eden I appear to own. On one hand, 1st editions of classics are cool. On the other hand, I despise Steinbeck. (Although maybe I'd like him more as an adult? I haven't actually read him since age 17, but I was very much of the opinion "Why read this 'edgy' white dude's stuff when Maya Angelou is RIGHT THERE?")

It's not in great shape and doesn't seem to be particularly rare as these things go.

I'm #NowListening to John #Steinbeck's #novel The Grapes of Wrath (1939) for the #FirstTime.

I'm not really literary. I probably read/listen to a couple of novels a year, but they're usually epics.

With this book I just reached Chapter 25 out of 30.

It contains the phrase "the grapes of wrath". The whole thing is amazing, like he knew this was it, the big metaphor, and he wrote the most beautiful and chilling chapter yet.

Audible is having a 2-books-for-one sale through March 1, a great deal for members and maybe new members too if you are interested. idk, check it out. One purchase was John Steinbeck's The Winter of our Discontent, his only East Coast novel. The opening chapter, set in 1960s Sag Harbor New York, amazes me with its still-current American voice: economic struggle, bigotry, closed-minded views on immigrants. I also purchased Evelyn Waugh's Put Out More Flags. I ❤️ Waugh.

If you haven't read 'The Moon is Down' by John Steinbeck, you really should. A tiny novel written to encourage resistance against Nazis during WWII. Might even act as a gateway drug to his other wonderful books such as 'East of Eden' and "Grapes of Wrath'.
