When the pandemic first hit live in-person music was out of the question. After my friend Barry posted a YouTube of this great old #StephenFoster tune, I got the idea of adding a steel track. Then it occurred to us to add more contributors, each recorded at our respective homes. Ultimately we’d do over 20 such “remote” projects, helping us stay sane through Hard Times.

A friend mentioned the Stephen Foster tribute album called Beautiful Dreamer that came out a few years ago. My fave on that album is Grey Delisle's take on Willie We Have Missed you. It's haunting and nothing like the original.

Not long into the #pandemic and #livemusic was shut down my wonderful NC bandmates began posting individual performance videos. When I saw Barry Gray post #StephenFoster’s #HardTimes I asked if I could add a steel part. The project grew from there and we ended up doing over a dozen “remote” videos where I collected parts, then mixed the audio and edited the video.
