The word is Heavy
#Steppenwolf “Born to be Wild” from their debut album "Steppenwiolf" 1968
Lyric:
“I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under”
Everyone knows this one (I hope) but it’s still bigger in #RockHistory than it’s often given credit.
Not only is this song the embodiment of #RockMusic in subject, attitude, sound, and style, it's at the fulcrum between #60s #FlowerPower and #70s #HardRock. (I won’t say #ClassicRock and you can’t make me.)
At the same time it became a #CounterCulture anthem in the film #EasyRider, taking the world “in a love embrace,” it gave us smoke, thunder, and tellingly, the first instance of "heavy metal" in song lyrics; we fire all our guns, yes, but then explode where? "Into space."
This song growls in what the early 70s would slow and darken into #HeavyMetal, but "like a true nature's child," still finds its way to transcendence.
