In the mid 80's, when Madonna's tune Like a Virgin was all over the place, four musicians went in the studio and created some great music.

Steve Khan led Eyewitness, a pianoless quartet, and created a bunch of great tunes and albums.

(Don't get me wrong. There is good music being made today. Just wanted to mention this stuff.)
