1️⃣ The first third is mystery-driven. What is going on? The audience is successfully kept in the dark until the big reveal. The foes, when they arrive, are among the best the show has had. Slimy; creepy.

2️⃣ The rest of the episode is Mr. Spock-driven. He impresses. As does #LeonardNimoy. The scenes where he overcomes the pain are magnificent.

3️⃣ The Kirk-Spock-McCoy dynamic is also a big part of this episode.
