So many stone stiles are not for shortarses with bad knees like me, makes for very undignified ascents/descents 😅 #dartmoor #stiles #walking #hiking #shortpeopleproblems

Yet another for @LakesStiles (if I’m not careful people will talk 👀) and @ceadela. Daughter’s partner had a walk in the ‘other’ Borrowdale yesterday and sent me these. I’m sure he won’t mind me sharing his photos #stiles #Cumbria #clag

Another four cartoons I drew for Ilkeston Rambling Club depicting various hazards involving stiles.
There are twelve in total. Four more to come!

For #WaymarkerWednesday a multitasking stile.

Boxing Day stroll along the Solway coast near Mawbray. Trying out the new Xmas walking boots, very comfy. There are some amazing sand dunes along this stretch of coast that looked like some kind of huge animal had laid down and the icy wind was ruffling it’s hair. I like this section with the stiles at each side of the planked path that runs down to the shingle beach and the Scottish mountains in the distance #cumbria #beach #boxingday #sanddunes #stiles #solwaycoast

#Stiles, Part 1; Stone stiles
These are one of the most aesthetically pleasing stiles and are typically constructed from longer, rectangular stones projecting from the sides of a dry-stone wall. Being constructed from such a hard wearing substance some of these can be some centuries old and show the wear of generations of clogs, hobnails, wellies and hiker’s boots, this means, of course, that are often very smooth and slippery.

A mossy clad drystone wall stile, rarely used by the looks of it. Mosstastic! #Mosstadon #stiles #Cumbria
Massive stile near Torridon
@LakesStiles @anamckellar @ceadela Did someone say stile? #stiles we can do. This specimen hails from #Dartmoor
@ceadela Try #SheepOfMastodon. Not sure about #gates and #stiles yet but I’m sure we’ll find them. There’s lots of excellent #LandscapePhotography that’s for sure. And you can ‘follow’ a hashtag, as well as a person, which is handy.
