St. Imier im Schweizer Jura wurde von bis zu 4000 Anarchist:innen besucht, die das 150jährige Jubiläum der Gründung der anti-autoritären Internationale 1872 feierten. Es war sehr schön. Doch es gab auch Konflikte.

So, after being on the fence about it for a while, I went to the anarchism congress in #stimier. It was quite a clusterfuck and I'm quite disappointef. First the good stuff: a lot of younger people attending, there seems to be a new generation of activists. And it was very international, you could get in contact with revolutionaries from Iran, Sudan, Chile, Peru, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. (At least when they were not attacked by sectarian activists from central Europe) 1/x

Went to a memorial here for Dmitry Petrov, a Russian born anarchist underground "hero", or martyr, who died fighting Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

I got to learn a lot about this figure from people who knew him intimately, and I must say, this man lived a life like no other. I only hope more people will get to know of him, and his abundant energy in combating the Russian regime and its extreme methods of oppression.

Exactly what i feared. And i am glad i didn't go. But sad as hell as well.

And so all that is left to do is to mourn.

To mourn for what could have been.

RIA aka Anarchy2023 in St-Imier could have easily been organized in a COVID-safe manner.

Some recent anarchist gatherings and book fairs have managed to do so (Montreal, IWW Northern Ireland). And even many recent non-anarchist gatherings have managed to do so (FOSSY, readercon etc.).

I tried to fight for a COVID-safe organization.
But i failed.
Probably i was too desperate, too angry, too impatient, too undiplomatic.

Probably i was too hurt. Hurt because i knew what would have been possible.
Easily.

(Probably other people tried to fight for this as well. But i wouldn't know, because i was kept out of the loop)

I really wanted to be a part of this. I really wanted to participate.

But i really don't want to beg for consideration and solidarity any more (see bellow).

So all that is left is to mourn.

To mourn for what could have been.

[PS: I am aware, that the gathering received a donation of 15'000 masks, but there is still no mask-consensus. It therefore remains too risky for people like myself (immuno-compromised, chronically ill, disabled) to attend.

And i am aware that they have soap in every room. I mean... LOL

I am also aware, that immuno-compromised people can contact the care-team and then this will get communicated in the rooms they plan to visit.

But that is not solidarity. That is conditional solidarity. It is solidarity with an if/then loop, one that shifts the responsibility to ask for solidarity to those who need the protection.

And frankly, i am (we are?) tired of having to beg. Solidarity should be a given in anarchist circles.

Have we learned nothing in this pandemic?)

Wir sind vom 19. bis zum 23. Juli für den Rest der Woche also in St. Imier beim internationalen anarchistischen Treffen. Der Livestream über unsere letzte Folge zur Polizei versuchen wir trotzdem auf unserer Anreise zu verwirklichen. Wir sind gespannt ob es klappt – also wie immer diesen Mittwoch ab 20:00 Uhr, dieses Mal aber nur auf YouTube:

Für alle die auch in St. Imier sind haben wir auch ein paar spannende Termine. Am Freitag den 21. Juli führen wir zusammen mit anarchismus.de ein Community Treffen durch. Wir freuen uns auf euch ab 16:00 Uhr vor oder wenn es regnet im Espace Noir (Rue Francillon 29), dem anarchistischen Zentrum des Dorfes. Am nächsten Tag werden wir dann den ganzen Samstag mit einem Infotisch bei der Buchmesse. Zögert auch nicht uns abseits dieser beiden Events anzusprechen, wir haben unseren Schwerpunkt für die Zeit in der Schweiz darauf gelegt Videoformate zu produzieren, eine gute Zeit zu verbringen und vor allem mit euch ins Gespräch zu kommen.

Aufregende Tage liegen vor uns. Wer es nicht schafft zu kommen, kann sich dann im Nachhinein über die Videos ein Eindruck machen. Wir freuen uns auf euch!
