I don't know if the house Dunga still stands in the #FaroeIslands (nor do I know where it was located). It was where the #Icelandic artist Karl Einarsson (1897-1972) grew up and was the basis of his last name (Carolus Africanus Einarsson Dunganon). You might also know him as Cormorant XII Imperator of Atlantis, duke of St Kilda. The last title was the one that stuck for Icelanders who have a soft spot for the #Hebrides (Suðureyjar) in general and #StKilda in particular.

In the first census since 1999 the National Trust for Scotland finds that the numbers of seabird species living on St Kilda has fallen by 61%.
The numbers of kittiwakes have declined by 84%,
guillemots and razorbills by more than 35%.
The survey found there are more than 45,000 fewer fulmars on the island than there were 24 years ago.

@Snoweider I remember very clearly when a few years back I heard it for the first time, I didn’t know what it was and it was very spooky, I kept crawling out of the tent to see but couldn’t locate it. There were loads of them last week on #StKilda, at dusk it was like camping on a small airport. 🙂

I am itching to post a one or two of the #StKilda shots, but should hold off until all the film is developed (was hoping that would be this weekend, but life keeps getting in the way). I do have all the primary #LargeFormat sheets developed, but need to do a batch of the secondaries, and one N-1 sheet. And then three 120 rolls. #BelieveInFiIm

By night eight the food we brought with us for the four night trip to #StKilda was just pretty much gone. We were just reflecting on this reality as we finished eating when one of the local lads turned up with a couple of freshly caught fishes. They were well worth using up most of my remaining fuel, but more than that, a reminder that the kindness of strangers is still a thing, and is to be found in the most unexpected of places. Brough back to mind the question of old ‘who is my neighbour?’.
