It stands at over 10 foot tall on the Upper Esplanade and peers serenely over the tram tracks, the foreshore and bay, toward the west of our gorgeous city!

This iconic beauty celebrates the previous existence of the St. Moritz Ice Rink. This venue was a popular ice rink housed in a grand building on The Esplanade, which operated between 1939–1981.

As one of only two ice rinks in Melbourne in the 40s and 50s, it played a central role to the sport of ice hockey in Australia.

Closed in 1982, as it suffered a major fire and was then demolished.

The St. Moritz was first built as the Wattle Path Palais de Danse in 1922, a very large dance hall.
