There is no such thing as "AI art".
The machines were fed with creative works stolen from real artists. Stolen from humans.
If you support this, you are supporting artists getting robbed and deprived of their livelyhood.
If you post or reblog "AI-art" I will block you on sight and wish a reasonable amount of bad karma on you.
Fuck this AI-shit! Fuck it with a cactus.
Can't say that enough.

A rare statue of Buddha fails to sell at quction as questions swirl around the collection of James and Marilynn Alsdorf. The collection will have trouble finding buyers following questions about how they were acquired. Internally reconfiguring my orientation to the meaning of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. What these artifacts mean. What art means. What a museum means. (But hadn't I already? Maybe always.)
Foreseeing that the Met must, MUST find a way to right these historical wrongs. Right?
Rethinking my spiritual orientation towards the Met (because I must).

I'll give the author's thread a read, but already tried hammering "Stable Attribution" with several dozen images I have generated.
This with a genuine interest in attribution if possible; particularly the opportunity to discover first hand conscious human renders, to presumably far surpass my SD tinkering quality.
Nothing useful or meaningful revealed, with about 30% being "No match found" and the majority of others being an arbitrary similarity of name-able object and layout or colour, particularly in cases of stereotypic iconography.
Next to no clear correllation of texture/technique and complete composition.
What's more, it did flash me some images that engaged my curiosity outright, but when clicked, prompted only with "Do you know who owns this image?"
OK - thread read - and I cannot agree this is a helpful tool made in good faith. It stands well to agitate more divisiveness with its own special spam recipe. I'm sceptical it expresses any real 'inverse' of the SD model, but may be measuring some kind of a 'distance match' between input image and its database?
As for jumping on board with #Creatives, I don't know then what category the masterfully skilled artists I know, delving into AI several years now, would then be relegated to?
Can't give back my #StolenArt just yet. Until I find out who to give it to.
Yep. 'Overfitting' useless BS.
And genuinely disappointing, as it would be very interesting to find (&even attribute!) the determinates of technique and composition appearing in #StableDiffusion #StolenArt
But, none the wiser. A few "no results" which is interesting in itself, and a general trend of 1/2 dozen vaguely reminiscent images similar by subject/content with insubstantial match on material impression.
So, still I do not know: Who's Art Did I Steal Today?
Gah, ran it more times = more "no results", and some matches cliche enough to almost make me wonder "Who is trying to steal *my* stolentArt, from me?"
@FediThing @bcoffy
Suits me to call it #StolenArt
All credit due on both sides of the equation, if the generated works can indeed hold their own? Up there with cutups/readymades/merz & screenprinted soupcans?
If the result isn't art, I'm blaming the user not the equipment. The steps sure feel like 'art' is allowed. The cultural_vs_cognitive reflexes in initiating then refining prompts. The rejection of the majority images in any run. The contextualisation of image selections into narrative, then reprompting and postprocessing. The freedom to elevate an image collection into a broader based work. All demanding introspection, assertion, process and aesthetic from the operator-as-artist.
And everytime, the wonder "Whose art have I stolen today?"
Maybe we can call it all #FreshGarbage

I suppose that “Attribute other people’s work” could be something that #MastoAdmin could add to their rules. People do sometimes forget or can’t find an attribution, or you just pull a pic from google images to illustrate a point or whatever. But if an account does it constantly, that should be a bad sign, right? I know some instances are requiring alt text and some require CW for certain subject matter. Seems like a similar situation.
#mastoadmin #stolenart #copyright #attribution
I’ve seen a kind of account here (and also on the Other Place) which I wanted to point out. Its traits are:
- sparse profile
- on a big, general-purpose mastodon instance
- relatively new account (since November 2022)
- high frequency posting (many per day)
- mostly posts professional-grade #photography of #nature, #scenery, #architecture, #history stuff, etc, from all around the world
- the photos are unattributed or insufficiently attributed
- often bilingual in Russian(?)
- follows and is followed by thousands — often follows way more than they could possibly read
- no engagement with anyone (replies, boosts, etc)
- you may become aware of them when they follow you, or because someone boosts their pretty pics.
I’m not sure what the point of these accounts is, though I presume it’s something scammy. For instance they could be gathering thousands of followers for the pics, and then they’ll sell the account to someone who wants a ready-made audience.
I’m guessing that what they’re doing isn’t technically against their instance’s rules, so they’ll probably continue to exist. But this is just a heads up that you shouldn’t follow them or promote them. There are SO MANY people posting amazing photos on the Fediverse, which they’ve taken themself (or attribute properly), that you shouldn’t need to follow these scammy accounts. Speaking for myself, I’m going to start blocking them.

Elisabete Pereira, coordenadora do projecto, é entrevistada:
“Quando chegámos aos museus, foi-nos dito que não tinham peças problemáticas porque todas tinham sido fruto de doações”.

@Rachel_Thorn Hard agree. Art posts in my feed a source of anxiety and irritation right now - first I have to check if there's alttext. Then I check if there's attribution - if not, I check the OP's profile to see if they're an artist with works consistent in the same style/skill, or if they've mentioned any of the AI machines out there. Sometimes I try to reverse image search it with TinEye or google just to make sure.
