The world’s oldest stone tools were made by an ape-like hominid 3.3 million years ago, predating the emergence of the genus Homo by half a million years. This suggests that tool-making was not a unique feature of our ancestors but a more widespread and ancient skill among hominids. The discovery also challenges the conventional view that stone tools were linked to larger brains and language evolution. #stonetools #hominid #evolution https://www.iflscience.com/worlds-oldest-stone-tools-were-made-by-ape-like-hominid-33-million-years-ago-70138/

I found this in the garden the other day digging up a dying plant to move it. It looks vaguely knife like to me but I am no expert so just wondering if anyone would know?

Who butchered this ancient hippo?
#Archaeologists in Kenya have unearthed dozens of #StoneTools scattered around the butchered bones of ancient #hippopotamus-like creatures. The site dates to between 2.6 and 3 million years ago, and pushes back the known start of large-animal butchering by early human relatives by at least 600,000 years. The tools are the earliest known example — by around 700,000 years — of #Oldowan tools, which became widespread across #Africa cont..
