It will be never years before we convince enough people to give something up to save the planet. Scarcity is not a winning hand.

Thankfully electric motors are just better. EVs are just one piece of the puzzle. When I cook away from my induction, gas feels positively archaic. #stopburningstuff

The other big levers are not personal choices for better or for worse.

Our #SolarPV generation for December 2022 was a paltry 112kWh, barely ¼ of what we needed to charge our EV.

However, now we've passed the winter solstice and days are getting longer, our generation should start to pick up again.

Our total generation for 2022 was 4,968kWh, which compares really well with our installer's original estimate of 4,649kWh per year.

December was the coldest month we've had in many years. Despite this, our #HeatPump kept the house nice and warm at 22°C and was still cheaper to run than a gas boiler.

Energy usage was 874 kWh delivering 2,864 kWh of heat, a COP of 3.28.

The cost was £297.16 compared with a 90% efficient gas boiler which would've been £327.75.

Not a huge saving, but it shows that heat pumps are still more efficient than burning gas, even during the coldest days of the year.

Utterly ridiculous overnight temperatures for this time of year, and yet our #HeatPump is carrying on without complaint and the house is lovely and warm, with a flow temperature hovering around 35°C and a hot water cylinder charged to 50°C.
