US #Congress members are trying to destroy the #Internet using the #EarnItAct, #StopCSAM Act, and the rest of the #BadInternetBills.
European legislators, meanwhile, just decided to make free and #OpenSource software (#FOSS) development illegal with the #CyberResilienceAct (#CRA).
Why is it that legislators' first and only reaction, upon seeing a good thing, is to make it illegal?

Bad news: The #RestrictAct isn't the only bill threatening to end the internet as we know it. There are now 5.
Good news: Fight for the Future has created a single action you can take to prevent them from becoming law. It only takes a couple of minutes. Do it now!

Have you heard the bad news? The #RestrictAct is not the only bill that threatens to end the #internet as we know it. There are now a total of 5.
The good news is that Fight for the Future has created a single website where you can tell your senators to vote them down. It only takes a few minutes. Do it now!

@quincy @echo_pbreyer Does it make you feel any happier that the united states of america is doing the same? See #EarniTAct and #StopCSAM and #KOSA?
Meanwhile both the senate the house and the european parliament has issues with SA.... A lot of times these cases are not really even reported properly.
If you are in the US, please contact your Congresspersons and explain why the STOP CSAM Act is unnecessary, and harmful to online privacy and freedom of speech.
"... if the STOP CSAM Act passes, it would make it a crime to offer encryption, because it could "facilitate" the sharing of illegal child abuse material (CSAM)โeven if there's no evidence that a platform or service intended to do so. The law would undermine digital security for all internet users..."

If #STOPCSAM ends up passing in a form that forbids offering encrypted services, that will be the last straw that causes me to remove any unencrypted means of contacting me to force my family and friends to use encrypted services themselves. Because preventing US companies from offering encryption won't stop encryption from being available to Americans.
