I thought spanking in schools was bad (common when I was a kid in 1960s - 70s, still legal in more than 20 states).

I had no idea this type of thing happened! Terrible. 😔

However, I do know about the shock torture at Judge Rotenberg Center which as far as I know has not yet been stopped, sadly

@BinGanzBrav Das JRC praktiziert Elektroschocks seit vielen Jahren. (Dieses Jahr haben sie wohl aufgehört damit, nachdem die Proteste zu groß wurden). Die "Therapiemethode" dazu nennt sich Applied Behavior Analysis" und ist verwandt mit der Konversionsbehandlung für queere Menschen. Unter #StopTheShock und #noABA findet man ganz viel dazu, es geht oft, aber nicht ausschließlich um autistische Menschen.

It took until 2022 for ABAI (the international group of behaviorist practitioners) to say that, ya know, shocking autistic people is bad and maybe we shouldn't do it, mkay? #abaisabuse #stoptheshock

For those who have been following the story about the torture of autistic people at the Judge Rotenberg Center: ABAI members just voted AGAINST Contingent Electric Skin Shock, and that is now therefore the official ABAI position!

This step forward is a victory for disability rights activists!

What happens next to #StopTheShock? We don't know yet. There are laws before Congress at the moment, but that is a separate process.
