Storj DCS isn't suitable for Pixelfed or Mastodon instances because of the segment limit.
Also the pricing is pretty complicated 😕..
Now I want to migrate to Scaleway. Any thoughts?

Hah, I am currently backing up 1.1 TB of my cloud to #storj, which works in a way that I have to actually send over 2.5 TB data, keeping dozens or even hundreds of connections open during upload. May my router forgive me. It is going on for 4 days already, and today passed 50% hah. #Rclone at least can do incremental backups very well, from what I know, so this big upload is one-time I hope.

I let my old cloud backup solution expire (iDrive Personal). Now I'm relying on the S3 compatiple gateway provided by #Storj. Really a neat solution for distributed cloud storage! Plus, I have implemented a more elegant solution for my #TrueNAS backups, running daily cloud sync tasks into 3 Storj buckets. Previously, I had a Windows VM that would backup mapped network shares to iDrive, which I found rather convoluted.
My backup strategy is 2-2-0 instead of 3-2-1. I've been mostly put off by costs. Let's consider 1 TB of cloud storage per month. It is roughly $5 for most services. Backblaze charges $7 for "unlimited", but only 30 day file history (an extra $2 for a year). AWS Deep Glacier is $1, but they charge a lot for egress.
Alternatively, I can run a NAS offsite. A cheap 2-bay QNAP is $200 plus $20/TB of hard drive space. I don't think I need RAID1? Install 10 TB in the NAS and it's $0.66/TB/month which is the best deal out there.
I don't need 10TB of storage. However, it may be possible to use Storj or Filecoin to earn some money for the unused space. Unfortunately their sites and forums are rather opaque about how much one could make. But it would only need to be $1/TB/month to make it worthwhile. Is that possible?

Wait, what... The #storj warrant canary isn't there (anymore)... https://www.storj.io/canary.txt
Anyone tried connecting fediverse projects to Storj?
Is it true? They claim: "Fast, secure cloud storage at a fraction of the cost."

I've used #scaleway before, and their current plan for object storage is is confusing. #tebi has the same price as aws. #Storj still feels too janky. A friend of mine had a node for them for crypto. #Synology #synologyc2 bandwith is also quite expensive.
Cloudflare also has r2 object storage, but still, expensive if you'd ask me: https://www.cloudflare.com/en-gb/products/r2/
So I rely on idrive and #cloudflare for the current solution 🧵

Actually -- this could be cool too: Ust #Storj as storage for your Mastodon server. #webinar coming: https://www.storj.io/virtual-tech-lab?_hsmi=236879611
Storj could be a nice alternative to #AWS or #Cloudflare #R2

I've been experimenting with #Storj on #TrueNAS. I have a node setup to participate in the network. About 2 months in and I have a little over 1TB stored. The payout has been quite small, but it costs me $O to provide the service, so I'll see how it goes. I allocated up to 8TB of space.
I am also pushing test data to a Storj bucket. That has seen some growing pains, since existing Storj DCS accounts don't work, only new accounts create via http://ix.storj.io.
