Talk about lucky, yet pretty freakin' cool. We had a tornado lift, go right over us & come back down by O'Hare. Sat outside drinking some Maplewood Son of Juice & Pollyanna Brewing Lexical Gap. Damage all around, but not here. Looked directly up into it, that was a first in all of my years watching storms!

I have moderately high hopes for that bolt, indicated by the white lightning icon. 7 miles away, and my camera is pointed exactly there. Unfortunately I was holed up back in the doorway so I didn't see the bolt hit, nor could I tell whether the camera triggered. it is set up properly now so I don't want to go mess with it. Will check later 🤞

I visited Petrified Forest National Park last October on a #StormChasing trip. Had this great set-up and was begging for a nice fat lightning bolt in the middle of that downpour, but no-go.

A little later, on one of the petrified log trails, I got caught in a massive cloudburst with #lightning waaaayyyyy too close. I sprinted to the truck, completely sodden. No lightning the entire trip, but it was super pretty anyway! It's a great little #NationalPark to visit if you're anywhere near I-40 in #Arizona.

I bet the #wildflowers are blooming there now.

This may be one of the craziest lightning shots I've ever captured! It's from a storm that passed through Liberty Hill, Texas. This is a SINGLE 20 second exposure, Nikon D750.and Sigma 12-24mm lens.
