We followed this storm through half of its life across Alberta. At this point, the tops collapsed and it began the stage of dying. Lucky to catch the hail shaft with a rainbow close to the ground.

Buenos Aires NWR near Sasabe, AZ on one of the wilder days #StormChasing in 2021. This big storm moved through just at sunset with lit up clouds. There was a constant light spit of rain being blown onto the lens, so I was standing out there holding an umbrella over the camera. Then another cell moved in from behind me and started getting a little too close for comfort, so I bailed out into the truck for safety.
This is another one I'll be offering as a print.

Hail Core Dump
The formation of a hail core in a storm cloud occurs when strong updrafts within the storm lift water droplets high into the freezing upper levels of the atmosphere. As these droplets freeze, they become hailstones. The hailstones grow bigger as smaller hailstones collide with larger ones further up the storm cloud. Hail falls to the ground when the updrafts can no longer support the weight of the hailstones.
