Below: the elements of the "modern" ghost story elucidated by M.R. James, a medieval scholar widely known for his ghost stories. James is one of my favorite writers of classic ghost stories, along with Henry James, Edith Wharton, and others. The video explores the "telling" of ghost stories via movies and literature and although it includes clips of movies portraying the works of M.R. James, the full effect of his work is only felt in the reading. See comment. youtu.be/0fuHeXQ8UsE?si=oGbOd4

I have a box I was going to use for donation books. I approach a shelf, stretch out my hand, pull it back. This repeats for all shelves, including a bin of books in the closet for research on things like racism and women in the early KKK, books I hide from my son and his girlfriend, lols. The only thing I add to this box is a teeny tiny waffle maker my parents gifted me coz this is how ladies eat. lols. A keeper book is Tiny Nightmares, one that I suggest for those interested in .

If you are interested in writing dark fiction/horror this fall for , I will be posting links to videos, articles, and example stories to help generate thoughts and ideas. Those who have written to prompts for may be interested. I would like to expand beyond the 50-word challenge into longer lengths---ie, 175, 250, 500. Here is a video I like that is very simple and straightforward regarding generating ideas and making a start. Begin at 34 seconds.
