As hard as it is to do something other than watch streams of migrating soaring #Birds over our heads we also have been watching some of the other #ornithological magic here in The #Straits

Following much needed rain both Wilson’s and European Storm #Petrels amassing in The Straits giving some breathtaking encounters around our private boat excursion 😊

Here a European Storm Petrel cruises past!

#Glorious rain y’day briefly slowing the passage of #Migratory #Birds !

Then a river of Birds! Booted & Short-toed Eagles & Egyptian Vultures danced through The #Straits as streams of European Honey Buzzards moved out joined by Common, Pallid & Alpine #Swifts!! #FlywayBirding

With the wind lessening to a moderate to strong #levante we saw the #migratory flood gates open!

5,087 White #Stork, 4,381 Black #Kites dominated the skies with the gaps full of Egyptian Vultures, Booted & Short-toed #Eagles, European Honey #Buzzards, Montagu´s #Harriers, Black Storks, European Bee-eaters and more!

However many more did not cross - tomorrow more!

Going the other way this vagrant House Bunting came in from The #Straits and spent a couple minutes hanging at our watchpoint!

The #Levante continues and more and more Black #Kites, European Honey #Buzzards, Short-toed and Booted #Eagles arrive in The #Straits waiting for their turn to cross to Africa as the wind drops !

We estimated today there maybe well over 10,000 Black Kites waiting and desperate to make the crossing !

This #Milanada and bottling up of soaring migrants is ONLY possible due to wind and geography here at the very epicentre of migration ! #TheStraitsofGibraltar

Today among the #FlywayHighway Black #Kites continue to power through The #Straits with 1,825 making the crossing alongside this mesmerising group over 1,000 White Stork + 3 Black Stork, Egyptian #Vultures, Short-toed and Booted #Eagles European Bee-eaters, #Osprey and going the other way an Eleanora´s #Falcon!

With an increasingly gusty #Levante many decided to delay their crossing ....so tomorrow more!

Today 4,851 Black #Kites, 1,027 White #Storks, 96 Booted Eagles, 142 Short-toed #Eagles, 4 Montagu’s #Harriers and 2 Egyptian #Vultures crossed The #Straits from our chosen watchpoint. Also a juvenile #Lanner #Falcon ripped through our watchpoint. As the wind shifted more Black Kites pushed through the Eastern section of The Straits…..

With the final count yesterday of over 10,000 White Storks and well over 30,000 Black Kites crossing the #14km divide here of The #Straits we were very much in the #migratory flow to enjoy totally immersive and magical #FlywayBirding

After 5 days of strong #levante wind, today the wind eased to a moderate/strong levante and #Migration was on!

Reams of soaring migratory #Birds passed into The #Straits desperate to journey on into Africa despite the gusting wind. Some opted to return and try another day, but many - too impatient to wait any longer - powered out into the #14km Straits.

Black Kites, Short-toed & Booted Eagles, Montagu’s Harriers & swirling masses of White Storks!

35,000 soaring migratory Birds were logged!

With 3,487 Black Kite crossing The #Straits yesterday we had news from Dakar, Senegal 🇸🇳 where over 3,000 where counted passing !

Today a strong levante wind may delay all but the most determined to cross the #14km divide between Europe and Africa !

With the strong cross wind Black Kites are amassing near #Tarifa forming a #Milanada ! #KiteFest2023 is on!

Another day of vivid full HD in your face #migration here in The #Straits with 2,407 Black #Kites crossing our watchpoint accompanied by increasing numbers of Booted and Short-toed Eagles, Egyptian Vultures, European Honey Buzzard, squadrons of White Storks European Bee-eaters and 3 Montagu’s Harriers, including a stunning dark morph!

Today on the #FlywayHighway here in The #Straits we counted 3,373 Black Kites streaming out and attempting their crossing into Africa, across the shortest but challenging divide here between the two continents of #Europe and #Africa.

Alongside them swirling masses of White Stork (758), Booted and Short-toed #Eagles, European Bee-eaters and so much more!

This is #FlywayBirding !

As the Global Birdfair opened its doors our colleagues and friends at The Gambian Birdwatchers Association commenced our shared project and vision to recreate areas of mangrove forest in The #Gambia

Well over a 1,000 mangrove trees are being planted right now!

As migratory Birds pass through The #Straits we are heartened that at the end of their post nuptial journey new winter homes are being created for them ….good for #Birds, good for the #environment and good for the people! #MangroveLove
