New Instance #introduction
I research illustrated popular fiction in the #19thCentury periodical press, esp. that of #GrantAllen & esp. as published in the #StrandMagazine. Recent projects also examine how GA's scientific notions regarding #Eugenics infused his #PopFiction. My interest in the #C19 #WomanQuestion drew me to GA, who crafts compelling women within the constraints of the demands of a conservative mass market readership.
My PhD #prelims focus on the WQ, #C19Prose, and the periodical press. While I focus on prelims, I'm sadly ignoring conferences and the like; stepping back to step forward!
My work is published in Victorian Periodicals Review and Victorian Popular Fictions Journal.
Other details: I taught high school English for a decade, spent 5 years as my kid's primary care-giver whilst pursuing my MA, and then several years as an ind. scholar and adjunct instructor. #TeacherScholar I'm also active in #PEO, an org. that helps women fund their education.
