Now that I have passed this assignment, I have finished the second module of the diploma program. Only one more module to go, the "final project".

While looking for biographic information on the individuals in my #Strathclyde research project I found this amazing portrait of the Bisdom family… one of the sons in the portrait is a member of the #59men.

If my idea for the final project in the #Strathclyde postgraduate diploma program is accepted, I need to do #genealogy research on 59 men, who were officer in the English Reformed Church in #Amsterdam between 1700 and 1764. I am looking forward to it! Actually, I cannot wait to start... perhaps I can do some preparations during summer break?

Finished the last #Strathclyde assignment for this semester. It was a client report, describing the lives of client’s grandparents, and the patrilineal ancestors of her grandmother. Stories about a German soldier who served in the Dutch army and was a prisoner of war in England, or about three generations that operated the local post office. But also about a wheelchair made out of an old pram, or about rebellious teenagers. My client will hear the results this evening!

Another day working on my #Strathclyde assignment. The end is near.
Today I found an exciting story about a planned secret landing of #Dutch #military ships in lreland at the time of the Irish Rebellion of 1798. It went wrong: some soldiers were killed or wounded, many were captured and held as a prisoner of war for more than a year.

While working on the #Strathclyde assignment today, I learned more about one of the oldest nursing homes in our city (#Tilburg, Netherlands), St. Joseph Gasthuis. It was opened in 1888 and was in use until the 1960s. Wealthy people lived in luxury rooms while the less fortunate residents lived in large wards. Men and women were separated.

Working this morning on a #Strathclyde assignment. Adding some #Dutch social history. From 1874 it was forbidden for children under twelve to work in factories. The Child Protection Act, initiated by Samuel van Houten, mentioned penalties, but there was no agency to enforce the new law. Hence, not much changed. In 1901, when education became compulsory, the situation improved.

This morning I finished two #Strathclyde tasks: submitted my learning log and my idea for the #genealogy project to complete the #PGDip programme.

Working on one of the #genealogy assessments for the #Strathclyde postgraduate diploma. It is a client report, which in my case - no surprise there - deals with a #Dutch family. However, I may need to look in some #German records too!

Delivered a sesh this morning alongside colleagues from Cambridge about #DOI minting on #repositories, with a particular focus on DOIs for #PlanS as well as within repository/CRIS software ecosystems. Slides below! 😀
