You may be surprised, but the International Chronostratigraphic Chart (a.k.a. "the geological time scale") is often and regularly updated by the International Commission on Stratigraphy. They do it 2-4 times a year!

Fossil: Pentacrinus penichensis, a crinoid whose stems are pentagonal (star-shaped) in cross-section. In terms of stratigraphy, they are found at the lower Jurassic (Toarcian) - about 183 to 174My old. This picture was taken in West Portugal (Peniche).

More geology from my walk along the bluffs at Barnum Point on Camano Island. Classic glacial sequence in this region displayed in the bluff with advance outwash sand mantled by till from the ice sheet advance of the Vashon stade, i.e. the Puget Lobe. Field photos from *the outcrop of Bullhead Alluvium, displaying complex vertical and lateral changes in grain size related to paleohydraulics in the Pliocene Colorado River. Sediment lithologies indicate interaction between local sources and the main trunk Colorado in the Pliocene. Abundant, well rounded quartzite cobbles probably come from the Grand Canyon area, and angular granitic/mm lithologies likely from local drainages.
