The "ghosting" problem tends to happen a lot when artists stretch their own canvases and don't use enough tension to pull the canvases taut over the bars. A loose or sagging canvas = easily damaged canvas.

The beaded edge is the bump that runs along the outer edge of a stretcher bar.
