The term is becoming more popular and is appearing in contexts outside . I heard it recently in a TikTok about kids. I bet it will travel even further.

The novel meaning was coined by Sandra Dodd many years ago. I read somewhere that she was thinking of medieval people strewing straw or reeds on indoor floors (Sandra was involved in the Society for Creative Anachronism). Here is Sandra’s webpage on the topic: sandradodd.com/strewing
