soundproof and hot
white and cold
a butcher’s palace
tiles and mirrors and glaze

blood runs hot
over the stainless
steel so shiny
until you both
collapsed
in your big deaths

In his office, the manager sighed. The incessant shrieks were giving him a headache, not to mention the stench of burning flesh. He picked up his quill and scowled at its crusted tip. Dipping it again in the red liquid, he returned to his notes:

The conditions for her release were quite stringent; it had been a decade of always looking over my shoulder and jumping at shadows. The investigating officer assured me that she'd never be able to find me, but my cynicism was well founded. I'd been forced into hiding since the trial; she had powerful friends who put a target on my back. Nobody believed my cries for help, but all that changed on that fateful when I opened up the boot of her car. It was a horrific sight that would be forever etched into my memory; something that I would never be able to unsee.
