#BarburBlvd is a 7-mile stretch of #stroad which has killed people at a rate of at least one per year for as long as anyone can remember. It's right next to a 6-lane freeway. Completely senseless waste of lives and untold suffering. #ODOTGTFOpdx

The functional comparison between multi-use-paths(MUP) and stroads in failure may be accurate but doesn't include the difference in price paid because of the failure.
On a #stroad a failure usually results in death or very serious injury; on a #MUP a bike hitting another bike or even a person, while not good, is usually never deadly.

Well the #trafficEngineers maintaining this #stroad in SW #Portland have another #pdxTraffic victim #ODOTGTFOpdx #BarburBlvd coulda been safe yesterday or whenever #ODOT will finally acknowledge that five lanes of speeding cars and free left turns everywhere is why people keep getting killed with cars here. #VisionZero #InducedDemand

Sivuilla olevat erilliset ”paikallispalvelukaistat” molemminpuolin pääviemäriä (luultavasti kaksisuuntaiset molemminpuolin, koska Suomi, joten 4 kaistaa) ja sitten pahimmillaan pääviemärillä 4+3 kääntymiskaistoineen risteyksissä.

Tälläistä dystopiaa on #vihreat kaupunkibulevardi eli #stroad-mania.

Pispalan valtatie on surkea. Se ei ole nykyisellään kenellekään hyvä: pyöräilyyn vaarallinen, jalankulkuun epämiellyttävä, autoiluun tukkoinen, liike-elämälle nihkeä (tyhjää liiketilaa on yllättävän paljon) ja paikallisille asukkaille meluisa. Jos jossain kannattaisi #bulevardisointi niin tuossa.

@strongtowns Wow. that "before" is just like where Manhattan College Parkway joins W242nd Street. I was there. There is nothing on the crosswalk except lots of stripes. It goes on forever.

I never realized the privilege I have, being born and living in Sweden. I don't own a car and can bike to work and perform all my errands within 15 minutes.

Learning about how north American cities and urban planning is done is a complete horror show to me and really opened my eyes.

@suntour @madisonforall@urbanists.video Perhaps unsurprisingly, the headquarters for KL Engineering — the engineering consultants responsible for this design — is located in sprawl off a #stroad on the outskirts of #MadisonWI.

At least Madison's in-house engineering department is located downtown (and in-house designs reflect that...)

This photo from lower down the stroad (from the bridge of the Viikki cycle superhighway) well demonstrates how little space one lane per direction really needs when you don’t overengineer the street into a high-speed #stroad.

Sidewalk edge 🛑, and where it could be based on true driving tracks ✅, case Jokiniemen in #Helsinki. This is a #stroad with buses. Narrowing the car lanes would help realise the 30km/h limit that is way below the design speed and actual speeds.
