ATTN fans of #StrongWomanDoBongSoon. In case no one has mentioned it yet, there is a "sequel" coming out on Oct 7. #StrongGirlNamSoon.

Sounds like Nam Soon is a cousin of the delightful Bong Soon. Drama is coming from JTBC which has a deal in place with NFx so chances are good that it will appear on the site. Whispers are also circulating that MinMin and BongBong may have very brief cameos

People seem to either love or hate the gangsters/crime. [Note: Vincenzo also uses this horrific villainy/comedy tactic] I loved the comic relief and the fact that even in the comedy & silliness, the theme of “Abuse of Power” resonated through nearly every story line in the series including:
Gangsters
Teens
Bong-Soo’s Mom (both career & family)
Bong-Soo (accidentally)
Min-Hyuk’s father & brothers
Prod. Dev lead
Villain
Police

All demonstrated how power corrupts and how anyone with power must be on guard against the corruption.

I also know that many find the particular crime in the series awful, but I think the choice of crime is one that completely demonstrates abuse of power like no other crime really could.

I think maybe the consequences of the abuse of power on the victims is skimmed over because the story is more about the societal & the community problem than the individual's?

That’s one of my favorite things about the show - how he pays attention to what she’s ready for. Even later when she physically tenses up, he reads it & backs off.

IMO, the 1st episode is the most cartoon-like. Although the gangsters keep appearing - they make a couple of plot points & provide some comic relief - the interactions with her are more realistic - as far as a person with super strength can be realistic.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did/do (I rewatch scenes all the time).

Yes, the full on romance scenes are amazing.

One of my favorites is when she’s assigned to the creative director and CEO says, “We’ll have to see who wins.” or something to that effect. When he sees what she’s done, he’s hiding a smile. I love how it shows his admiration for her.

Park Bo Young gets better & better in SWDBS in my opinion. SWDBS is my favorite kDrama. My Park Bo Young & Park Hyung Sik quests come from this series. I watched Abyss & Oh My Ghost because I saw Bo Young in this & plan to watch Doom soon & Concrete Utopia when it comes out.

It is hard to understand what Bong Soon sees in Guk Doo, but you do learn more about their friendship as the series goes on.

I am going with delightful. 2 scenes stand out for me: the late night texting scene where he is beating his feet against the bed, so cute, and the sofa confession scene 😊

Second chances are always good. It is just an exceptionally crafted show. At first you think it's just silly, but all the silliness really drives the themes and the character growth. Every time I watch I find more things that just make it even better.

I think the nature of the crime in the show is purposely designed to show why the female lead becomes so driven to use her powers for good.

I’m not saying that it wouldn’t be triggering or shocking (and there should be a content warning), but I think that it was designed to be so. For me, it makes the fight of the FL that much stronger and more impactful.

Until this villain came along, she helped out here and there when she wouldn’t be caught, but never saw it as a calling.

Once he arrives, she becomes frustrated with not being able to do anything even with all that power.

The criminal literally takes her power at one point, but being selfless in her desire to help another gives her the power back. Then she says she wants to use her power to help now that she has it back.

That said, I often skip the crime & gangster scenes on a rewatch.

I love so many things about that drama - her little, tiny self throwing big, bad guys through the air, her growth as she realizes her capabilities and learns to control them and as she discovers her feelings, the parents growth, the friendships, and of course, the love story.

More thoughts on “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon”.

The more I thought about this, the more I thought about how different people might interpret it.

After the first meeting of the lead couple (which happens fairly early in the 1st episode, so this is not really a spoiler), the ML comments to his secretary that the FL is sexy. Some people may think he’s referring to her looks, but I took it to mean that he thought the sly way she just insulted him was sexy.

He’s a young, good-looking, CEO-chaebol and probably hasn’t had many people ever question him and she takes him down a peg on their first meeting. This interpretation flavored my experience of the entire rest of the series. I think if you miss that insult and how much it surprises & tickles him, you might interpret a lot of things differently.

This is rich chaebol (with trauma), but the girl is more middle-class and she has super powers which make her strong & vulnerable at the same time. I felt they were equals always - but in complementary ways. (He’s educated, she’s not, she’s more open with her feelings, he’s not.) Even though he teases her about not being smart (so does her family) there are several scenes where you can see how much he admires her.

If you watch, he is very jealous and manipulative at first, especially when he doesn’t understand his feelings, but there is a lot of character growth for both of them.

My favorite is “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon”.

You’ve seen the leads willing to risk their lives to protect their loves, but In SWDBS, not only does he risk his life more than once, his love for her is so profound that he is willing to … (well, I can’t say because that would be a spoiler - but you’ll need tissues).

I’ve seen comments where people complain about the ML being the manipulative, spoiled, rich chaebol, but if you watch closely the FL has him wrapped around her little finger and he loves it. He is also sweet about respecting where she is in acknowledging her own feelings. It’s a beautifully developed love story with romance, silliness, and acceptance.
