Earlier this week #STScI announced the selection of the next round of #Hubble gap-filler snapshot programs, so the 3 gap-filler programs that started in 2018 will be ending in a few months. Here are two new images today from program 15444: active galaxies SWIFTJ1009.3-4250 and SWIFTJ1635.0-5804.

Update: the #JWST #helpdesk were extremely fast and helpful, and fixed my problem :) (Weirdly it involved renaming the APT file.) Flight delayed; expected given the winter storm though conditions here and at my destination are fine. At least it gave me tume to check out the local #STScI art installations.

Takeaways from Jane Rigby’s report on #JWST performance at #STScI conference:

1) Over 20,000 people worked on JWST; 600 during commissioning.
2) Across the board, the science performance is better than expected.
3) Tracking speed is 1.5 times faster than expected; good for solar system science.
4) Throughput is limited by background of sky, not thermal emission of spacecraft.
5) Stray light is lower than predicted.
6) Enough propellant for 26.9 years of operation.
