An anecdote prompted by the Russian Ruble of 1909.

An over-printed note was used to promote Chester N Weaver and Studebaker cars. The Studebaker car of 1921, a Light 6, was in the top 10 of popular cars at the time. In fact it was the first car to be driven into Yosemite, (that is another story.)
By 1924 had other distributers. One of them was Atherton B Snyder of California, who stuck his fortune with the distributorship. When excavating for an underground gasoline tank he struck gold-bearing ore. The deeper he dug he banked more gold and overburden. In fact he filled his garage with it. Eventually he had to choose between mining and cars.
Cars won, because he had paid for his garage in gold, and sold the mining rights to a miner.
