In theory if a #p2p network can communicate fast enough is should be able to do "#STUN seeding" i just made this up but I think it could be viable. The basic premise is this: A STUN server (or similar) can help a node behind a NAT to be reachable untill the NAT forgets the port mapping. During this time, if this newly reachable node's info can be put out fast enough, the node can now temporary act as a STUN server.
There are few #Internet options where I live. Fiber is 2 years out. I may need to use an ISP that uses #CGNAT, which means no open ports at all. I see that #Tailscale and #Zerotier both use #STUN (or something like it) to solve this problem. Are there any pure Open Source tools that can do this? #Yggdrasil is great, but is TCP based, so can't do direct P2P with blocked ports (it can communicate, but via a public or private intermediary.) Perhaps #Debian packages? #askfedi

Anybody have a recommendation for an open source STUN client library? I found https://github.com/alhasanmridha/stun but it is rather large and doesn't compile to a dynamic library so I'd need to vendor it to make it easy to compile. #gamedev #stun
I wrote a small STUN client in Ruby :ruby:. It implements the RFC3489 standard. It does not provide authentication or advanced error handling. However, it works fine. You can also set the change IP/port flag. For implementation I used the library `bindata'. https://codeberg.org/mark22k/stun-client

Running my own #stun server somewhere at a cloud provider far far away because why not...
Analysis of videos shows protesters with serious injuries consistent with proximity to exploding #stun grenades. These #LessLethal weapons should *not* be used in the #policing of #protests. As the UN Guidance on #LessLethal Weapons notes: "the use of pyrotechnic flash-bang grenades directly against a person would be unlawful”: https://www.ohchr.org/en/publications/policy-and-methodological-publications/united-nations-human-rights-guidance-less

Was ich soweit verstehe in a nutshell:
So, mal einen Blick in "Traversal Using Relays around NAT (TURN): Relay Extensions to Session Traversal Utilities for NAT (STUN)" (#rfc5766) werfen.
#ice #stun #turn
To all #jitsi admins out there: if you don't want to use the #STUN servers of Google due to #privacy concerns, you can use mine at stun:kopanyo.com:3478. It's only STUN, no TURN. I don't keep any logs... and I am not interested in any data 😁
My STUN server is #FOSS. Located in #switzerland. There is nothing like guaranteed uptime - but I maintain the server with ❤️.
