There's a name for that and it isn't hoar frost or snow. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/rime-ice-yellowknife-weather-no-sunshine-january-2023-1.6713472

Scary stuff. Ranges and habitats undoubtedly changing.

Rapadalen (Rapa Valley) on the #Kungleden trail. A unique place and a spectacular view but getting there is one thing and having a good weather is something entirely different. So if you plan a visit and do not use a tent book a cabin for few days.

I need some advice on good articles on #arctic and #subarctic #foodsecurity in relation to #climatechange. Both connected to #indigenous and non-indigenous populations.

Earnest #insect question, with priority given to #entomologists or folks in similarly #subarctic climates.
Every autumn, we get #moths taking refuge in our house. Very lethargic moths. They especially like to camp out on the window frames. I am currently watching one crawl around on the wall next to the woodstove.
What should I do? Should I gently put them outside like I do in the summer (it’s currently ~0°F outside)? Should I just let them slowly starve in the house? What do they want? Help!

Now that I have a better idea of what I'm doing and the need for using tags, a re-#introduction.
I'm a #planetary and #environmental #geologist and currently a #postdoc at NAU.
My #research includes performing #fieldwork using #arctic, #subarctic, and #alpine #periglacial analogs to better understand the history of #ice on #Mars.
I'm also into #photography and the #weather.
I'm interested in re-connecting with folks in the #geoscience and #astronomy communities making the #TwitterMigration
