In historic shift, #Minnesota looks to abolish #SubminimumWage for people with #disabilities.
Many of these workers are stuck in menial jobs, such as sorting garbage or packing boxes, and are paid based on their productivity. This piece-rate system often amounts to just cents per hour.

I am not #Black though I have #Solidarity with this. I grew up in the #Blind #Community and I knew about what was referred to as #ShelteredWorkshops where #Disabled people worked for #SubminimumWage
#Handouts are bad for many reasons (#Sympathy and #Pity are the opposites of #Empathy) and they #Enable #Unjust #Systems to continue.

What the shit. Missouri wants to develop a NEW state #subminimumwage program. https://www.kcur.org/2022-11-15/missouri-allows-some-disabled-workers-to-earn-less-than-1-an-hour-the-state-says-its-fine-if-that-never-changes
Well, if the federal one goes away, they won't be able to pay less than the federal minimum wage of $7.25/hr without an exemption to the federal minimum wage, just less than the Missouri minimum wage of $11.15/hr.
I also wonder if this level of resistance in MO is recent.
In 2016, the Republican platform was much stauncher on eliminating subminimum wage than the Democrats' was. Several red states like New Hampshire and Alaska produced the first laws to end subminimum wage, and Dems were the biggest barriers in states like Texas.
Then the Biden Administration finally comes on board (after NOT being onboard for years) and suddenly all the Republicans flip sides.
Thanks @ThatMichaelM for the story,
