I got banned from the #physics #subreddit group for bringing up uncomfortable questions for #StringTheory aficionados. Specifically, has there been any experiments or even proposed ones which test the theory out? I also committed blasphemy by asking who came up with the Axioms of zero? These two subjects are hallowed. Tread lightly.

r/Firefox is doing it right - The mods announced they were reopening the #subreddit, but made it so new posts could only be pictures of foxes or red pandas…then said if people wanted to post about technical stuff, to do it on their kbin.

I had a #video #encoding question last night, so I googled it. The first hit was EXACTLY what I needed. It was phrased better, and promised a complete fix to my problem.

But when I followed the link, the #subreddit was still private. So I went back to my results and found the answer on a site that wasn’t #reddit.

I know I could have looked in Google’s cache, or that other Reddit cache called #ChatGPT. But the path of least resist was to find the info elsewhere.

Hey guys, I've heard a little bit about the path that Reddit is going (following the foot steps of Twitter), and I thought that it be worth mentioning to at least look at and even try out Lemmy.

It's basically the decentralised version of Reddit, just as Mastodon is to Twitter. Lemmy is also Federated too.

I haven't tried it myself tbh (never even been to Reddit), but I thought it might be better than what Reddit is going through right now (unless it takes a u turn).

Just saying, and putting this out there.

I've been following a #subreddit called Patient Gamers "For gamers behind the times." I lose track of time when I'm reading the threads and discovering the way they experience the games at a later date. Many users played #masseffect recently, like I did. #reddit

A lot of subreddits did polls on the private protest thingy, which was great. Subreddits are still on protest, which is good. But Reddit now decide to remove the mods, re-open he subreddits and assign new mods. Forcibly breaking the strike! This is insane!

What a lot of reddit users are oblivious to is that this is a first major step in overhauling the site as a whole for public investment. They will continue to squash independent and progressive movements throughout the site to make it appealing to stakeholders. They WILL start to imbed more ads and monetization to the site whether you care about the third-party app changes or not. Twitter did it, Meta did it, Digg did it and failed, and now Reddit will start to do it too. To every redditor who is smugly ignoring all the protest and laughing about it, you're gonna feel really stupid soon enough.
