But then especially one that the government itself has committed to phasing out because its actions are injuring humanity's chance to survive...
(At minimum, any such subsidy should be tied to specific goals of reduced net revenue due specifically to diminished market share against non-carbon-based renewables.)

...and just the amount of energy per passenger for a #plane is incredibly much more than for a #train (about 4 times).
Of course, not all routes can be done by train, but within #Europe (nearly) all should. And the whole point of this @greenpeace report is to show that even when there's a direct high-speed train, the #tax and #subsidy policies make it viable and even competitive to #fly on the same route.

103 followers · 210 posts · Server todon.eu@enobacon Good point. Through that lens, any money spent on improving the safety of a road for other road users (incl. separated bike lanes) can be viewed as a #subsidy to cars. This is what people mean when they say '#bike lanes are car #infrastructure'.
The only reason these safety features are needed is because cars need to be accommodated in that space, and cars are murder machines.
(Of course, the features aren't strictly 'needed' if you're sufficiently much of a sadist, but I think the point stands.)
This is incidentally why I'm a little critical of the praise the #Netherlands receive for their bike infrastructure. It's better in so much as it's doing the bare minimum to accommodate other modes of transportation alongside cars. But the Netherlands are still a car paradise all the same.

If we can agree that the #GreenTransition is a thing, then one way of driving economic success is develop a productive capacity in #green #technology.
We already know China is racing ahead & the US has put in place a #subsidy regime to make it an attractive location for green investment(s).
The EU, is successfully playing the global market, but what about (so-called) Global Britain - here #manufacturers & #energy firms are wanring the #Tories not to abandon their 'green strategy'!
