...In that regard, having a #substrate based blockchain that just records the updated balances in the blocks themselves is so much more easier. Looking up the balance is computationally trivial, you don't need to run any VM code, and you still have to trust the wasm runtime to do it right.

I've seen dozens of websites on blockchains that promote "security" and "decentralization", but blockchains aren't foolproof in either. They just pretend they are too big to fail and we all know how that ends

Latest paper out led by PhD student Georgia Sinclair, "Is substrate choice an overlooked variable in #ecotoxicology experiments?" looks at the issue of substrate choice for toxicology experiments. By measuring small molecule metabolites (#metabolomics) we show that the metabolic effects of #contaminants on organisms can vary by substrate even when using artificial, clean material.
