@jasonkotenko It's especially insidious since we never see a bill for most of the cost of driving. That cost is paid automatically and silently with taxpayer money, higher housing costs, opportunity costs of sprawl, etc.

@DemonHusky @ChrisMcCahill @pewresearch State, local & federal governments massively subsidize the car dependent suburban sprawl lifestyle. Prime real estate given over for car storage, maintaining endless miles of utilities, and road construction and maintenance are not free.
If Americans had to pay out-of-pocket the true cost of that big ass house that can only be reached by car, there would be considerably less interest in the lifestyle.
