Probably blasphemous, but I have to wonder why smaller sub-8 inch powered subwoofers don't exist? Say someone just wants to round out some very basic bass for absolutely shitty speakers that have none.

Story time! Bedroom TV that is next to my desk I have a cheapie iLive soundbar (it was free to me) that at least does a respectable job of being clearer than the built in speakers. But the bass leaves a lot to be desired. But they at least did something right and included a sub pre-out despite not even offering anything themselves that uses it.

Now my desktop PC has a 3.1 speaker system. One of the cheaper <$100 Creative sets with the dinky subwoofer with all the interfacing bits and bobs built into the box. Probably only has a 4 or 5 inch driver. But it's enough to get a good and respectable 'base(bass)line' (I'm punny).

Decided to do something dumb and slightly genius by splicing in the soundbar's sub out to the sub input on the 3.1 system. Surprisingly it works! But the volume level on the speakers needs to be maxed out to get anything. And if I leave it connected to the PC, that means I get all the loud clicks and pops when that does anything or wakes up/goes to sleep.

I can certainly go and get Monoprice's 8" sub that runs around $70 usually. Got one right now actually in my living room. But it is overkill for this use case in a number of ways.

Time to research to see if I can DIY something for cheap I guess...

Tietokoneessa on vieläkin (Eikä mitään syytä päivittää) Logitech Z-5500 Digital THX kaiutinpaketti. RMS on 505 W. Olen koittanut aikoinaan mitä tuosta lähtee. Jäähdytyselemetti hohkaa ja kyllä sillä lähinaapuruston herättää ja nykyisessä paikassa ikkunat irti koko rakennuskompleksista (Hieman liioitellen)

Kotiteatterissa on Denon AVC-X3700H ja Focalin sekä Onkyon Subbarit. Luojan kiitos niistä ei saa irti samaa. Mutta miksi?
