I had a talk with Ripley, the #NorthernFlicker who has been abusing my hanging #suet #feeder and inadvertently feeding the #BlueJays.

She explained that if I'd taken the simple precaution of looking up her size on the internet and measuring the perch distance, we wouldn't be having this problem, ya jerk.

These photos demonstrate her situation with the aid of a #plush #GiantAnteater which is bigger than Ripley, but has the same length legs-to-snout.

I apologize for the poor quality of these photos, but here you can see the #NorthernFlicker hanging upside down from a #suet feeder just to get the last few scraps, and the #BlueJays on the ground reaping the benefits of her messy eating.

She is completely ignoring the other feeder, and also ignoring the ground-level feeder which I put in just for her.

Oh, and this is also despite the fact that the #BlueJays are free to eat from the two big #suet feeders which both have perches.

It's the same suet, but they only want it from the #woodpecker feeders. Clearly, there is a conspiracy to undermine the Downy Woodpecker Treaty of 2022.

Why Blue Jays? Is it just because you're jerks? Oh, yeah. I guess that does explain everything.

I have a #treaty with the local #downyWoodpeckers. The terms are: (a) I acknowledge that I harmed the #woodpeckers by cutting down a very large, old oak tree; (b) as recompense, I provide #suet feeders year-round, and (c) the woodpeckers agree to stop banging on my house.

It took 4 months to negotiate this treaty, and it is in constant jeopardy because other #birds are harassing the woodpeckers and eating all the suet.

#BlueJays are the worst, but even other woodpeckers are doing it.

Anyone got any tips on how to diversify the species coming to your bird feeder? I've got suet and an unknown mix of seed. This is what my setup currently looks like.

I’m snowed in and only have 2 suet cakes left but they don’t like the peanut one so I melted it and added a bunch of bird seed to make it into 2 cakes and I’m just telling you DON’T MELT SUET CAKES IN THE HOUSE BECAUSE THEY ABSOLUTELY REEK!!!! omg #birds #suet #cooking
