From making the fine wicks, to lighting the candles, to collecting the soot, to preparing the animal glue, to kneading all ingredients together, to pressing them into blocks, to pre-drying them with oak ashes, to air-drying them for at least four years, all done by hand.
No wonder these #ink sticks are expensive!

I've started a daily art practice using ink and brush. It's meditative and relaxing. Everything from setting up the ink and brush, breathing through the exercise, performing the act, and finally cleaning the brushes and hanging them up for the next day. I've gotten a series of sleeved art books to store them. Each is dated using a date stamp.

Somebody pointed out this week was a challenge to do Bad Art, which is interesting because art is purely subjective, so you have to sit & think what kind of art you do that you think is “bad.” So in a weird way the exercise drives you to find beauty in it.
I’m always dissatisfied when my work isn’t precise. Every line with purpose. No drips out of place. It’s limiting! So, this kind of challenge is helpful, to break through shame or prejudice & free the mind.
