Did I end the day looking like a drowned rat? Yes. Did I get smacked by multiple tree branches? Also yes. And did I have a lot of fun skiing Hyak with ZERO CROWDS? Why, yes. Yes, I did.

I just watched someone have to back up to let multiple cars who couldn't park out of the lot and STILL DRIVE IN when the path was clear. And I'm like, "Yo, why did you think those people were leaving? Did you really think they were done skiing an hour after the lifts started?"

Am seriously considering making a "LOT FULL" sign since the resort isn't putting any out.

Eyes on the mountain: Summit East is hopping! Parking lot has been full for close to an hour but people are still showing up trying to park. A decent percentage of the lot is now blocked in by people willing to triple park, because people are really reluctant to admit that they drove up but don't get to ski here. So far no one is parking on the road (which would be illegal) or in my driveway (which would be rude, but I've been warned it will likely happen eventually.)

Today at Summit at Snoqualmie. My first day of the season. Muscle memory kicked in.

Adventured out to Summit West part of The Summit at Snoqualmie this morning for a couple of hours as part of my last day of end-of-year break.

It was snowing and the snow was heavy and wet snow which made things interesting to say the least not to mention the fog.

Report from a mountain: the sun has come out! Partially. In places where it hits, the snow has become soft and sugary. In places where the shadows reign, the snow is hard, ice like, and fast.

I skied my all mountains, but could have taken my PA ice skis if they'd been waxed.

Hyak was nice this morning and I didn't see lines until 1130. It looks pretty busy now though and the lower lot is full.

Mountain Update from #SnoqualmiePass... I suspect it's a good day for skiing, although I haven't been out because I am now sick. Someone gave me a virus for my birthday, which was not a gift I'd asked for. I'd asked for the snowblower that still hasn't been delivered.

Temps are hovering around freezing and it's snowing lightly. There are more people skiing Summit East than there have been, but the lower lot is only about a third full.

Mountain Morning Update: It's WET up here! Seriously. I'm watching the snow crew clear the lot across from my house and they're creating WAVES.

And it's raining steadily.

I90 looks good.

Also, it's my birthday. I was at one point very excited at the idea of skiing today. It's opening day at Hyak (Summit East)! In addition to being the closest area to me, it's also my favorite. But... I'm now thinking I can wait to ski.

The Summit just announced they'll be closed tomorrow.

This will be the first Xmas my ski instructor partner J won't be working since... I don't even know. The offspring was YOUNG. So like 2008ish?

This storm is no joke, y'all. Over on Twitter, #WSDOT posted a photo of I90 by me and it was solid ice. Like you could probably play hockey on it. It wasn't this bad here when Seattle was covered in ice, but freezing rain will do that.

From the "You know it's bad when..." Files, #WSDOT has officially told the Summit that they need to send everyone home NOW. So, yeah, the weather is officially government agencies telling ski areas to close bad.

I'm unclear if people are being allowed down from #SnoqualmiePass still. Since the closure is for weather and avalanche danger, there's a decent chance they're not and I'm about to have a large number of unexpected Christmas guests.

Conditions at my house on #SnoqualmiePass: kinda foggy and puking snow. If you're skiing, bring your powder skis. If you're driving past... Maybe don't? #WSDOT is currently requiring chains on all vehicles other than AWD, but I90 is somehow still open.

First day skiing for 22/23 season, even got first chair this morning at Snoqualmie West Little Thunder. (Yes im a newb)
Had a great first day, 14 runs in before I had to head back to town for appointment.
