The longer I sit in my garden, the more #birds i become aware of. A pair of #bulbuls are playing with the #sunbirds today. Hoping they will come closer later. #thailand

Interesting. The Wallace Line (and Lydekker’s Line) are geographic boundaries that separate different species. Now it may turn out that one species that spans those lines, the common Olive-backed Sunbird, may be different species separated by those lines.

Sunbirds, especially the males, are colourful and may rival the beauty of hummingbirds. One of the more colourful ones here is the Crimson Sunbird (Aethopyga siparaja) and I finally managed to get some close shots of it at Springleaf Nature Park on 1 June, 2019.

An Olive-backed Sunbird (Cinnyris jugularis) spotted during last week's trip in Perak, Malaysia. It stopped on this branch just outside the garden, so I quickly took some shots before it took off again.

Sunbirds are the nectar feeding Old World equivalent of the Hummingbirds of America.

Saw the Black-throated Sunbird (Aethopyga saturata) several times during our stay at Fraser’s Hill, Malaysia. But they don’t make it easy to get shots, constantly moving about under the shade of branches while calling and feeding.

At least this fellow was willing to stay in one place for long enough to get some shots. Taken on 18 Nov 2018.
