#GothicAdvent Day 8:
On Sundays (Sunnandæg [ ᛋᚢᚾᚾᚪᚾᛞᚫᚷ ] ) the #Goddess of the Sun can feel very far away at this time of year, especially when the mysterious Swaailen (a thick sea fog that appears on the #IsleOfWight ) rolls in.
People would close their shutters tight, ensure that mistletoe was hung over all doorways and that the fires in the harth were stoked and cared for.
The Swaailen was known to creep its way down the chimney, through he cracks and even up the floorboards. Each icy tendril having a will of its own and that will could snatch away an unprepared bystander.
So the people would say the charms and pray the prayers to keep them safe as the fog and the darkness encroached. The one thing they would never do though, is let themselves be out in the winter's cold and darkness, when the Swaailen came a-visiting.

Happy #Sunnandæg (#Sunday )
I have nearly finished my first #bot — And Old English bot. It will give you random Old English words if you ask it and each day it will put out an old English word of the day.
Considering that is my superpower (knowing Old English) that is where I thought I would start.

Good morning friends, welcome to the late #November #Sunday. It’s cold here and the sky is grey here today, but that is what I want from this time of year.
Sunday gets its name from the goddess #Sigel , the #sun #goddess — #Sunnandæg
Below is my interpretation of the goddess Sigel (or #Sunna or #Sól ) drawn in the early #Medieval style.

Good morning #Mastodon, how are you this #Saturday ?
All the other days of the week are named for the #AngloSaxon gods except Saturdays. Why? Why is Saturday named offer the god #Saturn?
I have a theory, based on no evidence at all, but I like the idea of it.
I think they had no name for Saturday as such, I like to think that Saturday was Ærra #Sunnandæg — Before Sun’s Day or maybe Sun’s Day Eve.
The day where we take a moment to wait for the #Goddess Siȝel (#Sigel) to come #OldEnglish
