'Sun tax': Outcry over plans to charge families for solar exports. Outrageous, there are no mechanisms for a household with solar to control exports so the options are to pay a tax for network upgrades that won’t happen or manually turn off solar. Charges and taxes are designed to allow people to modify behaviour, in this case there are no mechanisms that allow modification. How does this tax actually help to reduce carbon emissions? Rather than tax people who have installed solar panels with their own money and currently get paid close to nothing for the power they produce, energy companies should be fixing the problems in the networks and asking governments for help. This is a perverse interpretation of the economic rationalist approach of user pays. https://thenewdaily.com.au/finance/finance-news/2023/02/24/sun-tax-solar/?utm_campaign=Saturday%20News%20-%2020230225&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Adestra&lr_hash=63c2cf61a320cdad1598e40b80f04592#comments-1612770
