Clyde kreeg de bijnaam Mr Funky Drummer en John kreeg de bijnaam Jaco.
Samen zijn ze verantwoordelijk voor de grootste hits van James Brown waaronder ook #superbad.
Ze noemden zichzelf The Beatles en The Stones van de funk, onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden, ze tilden elkaar naar een immens hoog niveau, wat de sound binnen de band van James enkel ten goede kwam.
Beiden hadden een eigen stijl.
