I'm not sure if it you'd ever go down the DIY route, but I'm rather hoping this fellow Murray-Smith manages serial production of his "C6 powerblade" cells, which
are described in battery terms, but sound to my very ignorant mind more like supercapacitors.
His YouTube channel is a wealth of, among other things, recently published patents and papers whose work he strives to replicate in his workshop, for the education of the interested amateur.
